Agege Bread French Toast

Agege Bread French Toast and Fruits - Adun

Hello Guys!

I’m back again! Life has been good, because I have been cooking! I am so glad my posts will be more consistent (no I’m not bored, I’ve just been hungry a lot and cooking a lot more).

For today, I am taking on a regular classic breakfast dish and putting a Nigerian spin on it. I made the popular French Toast using Agege Bread. For my non Nigerian readers, you know how there is something called “Texas Toast”, yeah there is someplace in Nigeria called Agege in Lagos state, that this bread is named after (Damn I nailed that illustration). This bread is unexplainable it has a special taste to it. Amazing.

I made Agege french toast the classic way and added some fruits to it to make it the best breakfast dish I’ve had in a while. Trust me when I say this breakfast dish can win the heart of anyone and guess what it took me 30 minutes. You might end up paying about $12 for this at brunch. It is super easy! (And if you don’t have Agege bread you can use any kind of bread).

Ingredients

  • Butter
  • 2 Eggs
  • Fresh Fruit
  • Agege Bread
  • 1/2 Cup of Milk
  • 1 tsp of Cinnamon
  • 2 tbsps of Brown Sugar

Directions

  1. Slice up your bread into about 1/2 centimeter thick slices (no I did not use a ruler to measure, I just guessed). Sliced Agege Bread - Adun
  2. Crack your eggs in a bowl, add half a cup of milk and add your cinnamon. Nutmeg is also an option but if you do not like nutmeg you can use Cinnamon. Whisk and set aside. this mix will be perfect for four slices of bread. Eggs, Milk and Nutmeg - Adun
  3. Heat a nonstick pan on medium heat and add about a knob of butter, dunk (not like a basketball) your bread in the egg/milk mix, let it sit for two seconds on one side, flip the other side and repeat same. Then place it in the pan to cook. Cook each side for about 90 seconds on low heat then flip.
  4. To make the caramelized bananas, melt some butter in a pan, add two tablespoons of brown sugar, and put your bananas in it. Easy right? Cut up your other fruits and voila! Caramelized Bananas - Adun
  5. Serve it up, dust some confectioners sugar and/or drizzle syrup on it and you have yourself a crowd-pleaser breakfast! Agege Bread French Toast - Adun
